Found THIS on Meg's website and wanted to share .....
I cannot explain how I think that these new studies, products and "new found information" are uneducating our next generation.
I do have no doubt that they can be helpful - but these beads are assuming ALOT. Why can't we discuss cervical mucus, cervical positions, cycle lengths that vary.
I am just get so passionate about education and facts - I know that there are still people that actually beleive they ovulate on or around the CD14 mark - and it just makes me mad that this is the kind of education our "scientific" community is passes as facts.
The thing about coffee, cell phones, acupuncture ..etc. Us in the "internet age" have known this for quite some time - It's not New news!
Ok I need to stop before i really getting going .. can you tell i am passionate about proper education on this topic!!!

I completely agree. My sister has two kids (and tried for at least 2 years for her fist) and had no clue until I told her that "normally" you should start your period about 14 days after you ovulate. She had no clue. They just "did it" until she got pregnant.
I'm with you. EDUCATE YOURSELF PEOPLE!
Well...if anything, I guess this bead method would help to educate some women on their cycle. However, it would also probably prove to MANY women how iffy this method is. I'm sure tons would turn up pregnant the first month....do you think they could sue ABC news if they did? :)
OOOHHHH....this is so disappointing that they are telling the people trying not to get pregnant or get pregnanat that this is something very reliable. I haven't commented or blogged for awhile..but I couldn't refrain anymore! My grandparents on my dad's side used such methods and had 13 kids - although each was loved! I know most of us blogging are the infertiles...but part of what infuriates us is people who don't want to becomce pregnant becoming pregnant...and promoting things like this furthers the unplanned and aborted pregnancies for those who may not recieve the proper education they need! Aauugghhh!

I completely agree with you. I don't even like the early pregnancy test commericals where they say you can detect pregnancy 5 days before your missed period - umm... not if your luteal phase is 11 days!
I still read 'you get your period 14 days after ovulation' some places it drive me nuts!
It really isn't that difficult to explain the facts behind a cycle. *SIGH*

Cycles of 26-32 days? A one-size-fits-all system for ovulating? That is such an alternate universe to me!!
Anyways, I completely agree. I find it very hard to believe it took these people four years to research and test it, and that they found it to work (not to mention, it's nothing new! There are tons of methods like this out there, NFP, Creigton, that are much more scientific and accurate! Did it take a team of scientists to come up with the bead necklace?). It's such a misconception that everyone's cycle fits a text book explanation and my OB/GYN wasted a year of my time assuming I fit some mold.
And what was with the video of all those people sucking face?! That was funny.
I am glad that everything is going well for you, E, and mini! I agree- education is so important. Whenever it takes someone at work more than a month to get pregnant, I want to sit them down and recite from the book, "Taking Charge of Your Fertility". I know it isn't that simple and if it was I would be on my 2nd kid not my first, but still!!!
I also get pissed about "studies" that aren't set up very well and are only one small study. You need a large sample size and multiple studies to make a fairly certain claim. Even THEN, it's not 100% Why do people think science is 100%??? (even docs sometimes?) It's not meant that way at all!!!!!!!

This is why I am the crazy psych instructor who brings fertility into lectures whenever possible. The miseducation is EVERYWHERE.
I actually believed I O'ed on CD14 always until after already having my first miscarriage.
I agree with Chas that this could lead to quite a few unwanted pregnancies.
