2 posts in one day ...

I just wanted to note how great my friends are. They surprised me.
A few days ago, a friend called and asked me to meet her for lunch at A.pple.Bee’s today for lunch (and ever since, I had been dreaming about their chi.cken faj.ita roll-u.p) So I met her up there to find that she called a few other really close friends ( that knew about my IUI's), balloons, cupcakes and presents for me. I had a “YEAH you’re Pregnant” Party!!! I was so shocked and honored; it’s nice to be loved. You Guys ROCK! You know how to make a girl feel special! Thank you!

If you are a science junkie, Like me, check out this webiste

Stolen from this website:

"Studies indicate that the sperm with the X chromosome - or female chromosome - have a longer life span than the male sperm (with the Y chromosome).Yet the male sperm appear to have a higher motility. Sperm motility is measured in two ways: percentage of sperm exhibiting movement, and the quality of this movement, which is called the forward progression. Poor motility means the sperm have a difficult time swimming toward the egg.It is said that the sperm carrying the Y chromosome uses energy faster than the sperm carrying the X chromosome. The energy utilization is said to be due to the speed in which sperm swim. Supposedly, the Y sperm is speedy or contains less mitochondria whereas the X sperm is slower or carries more mitochondria. Mitochondria are the energy producing cellular components which are absolutely necessary for life. Sperm contain, and can only produce, so much fuel for their journey. If one sperm type swims faster than another, the consequence of that, of course, is faster arrival - but also faster expiration. That said, if a woman knows her cycle and when she ovulates, the odds of baby gender prediction can be in one's favor. Sperm can reach the fallopian tubes in about 20 minutes to 2 hours. Sperm are viable for about 4-7 days inside the woman."

Anyone know if that is remotely have any truth to it? I'm heading upstairs to our DNA Section and asking if this is true. I want to know just because I am a science junkie.

Calling all self cleaning cat box owners:

Anyone have a self cleaning litterbox.. My husband insists that we get one.. if so, could you leave opinions on the ones you like.

We have the Litter Mate litter box, and when we bought it, the little containers fit perfectly, but they have changed the liter box, thus changing the containers and making them a tad bigger. That's a problem for people who still have the old model. They still fit in the compartment, but the lids don't fit correctly anymore. We also have the little tent to put it in because it's in our living room, and that's the part that J hates. He says it's too hard to get to in there. It's an okay littler box. Our cat always seems to go in the same area so the cat litter has to be spread around every couple of days. We've had it for 6 years, and it's still going strong so it's definitely paid for itself. GL picking one out!!!

That rocks that your friends are celebrating with you!!! And to surprise you like that, Go friends!!!

As for the litter box...my stupid cat is so skittish he'd probably run and pee somewhere odd if the box moved of its own accord. Stupid kitty. But good luck finding a good box!!!

What a fun party! I love surprises and it sounds like you got a great one today.

As for the info on sperm - I have always heard that too, and I'm pretty sure it's scientific fact. But maybe I'm just gullible. :-)

I have no idea about the sperm thing, but I'd think not in a particularly practically useful way or there'd be a lot of women out there with children of the gender they 'planned' from using the theory, instead of about 50/50!

COngrats on the fetal status,

Your friends sound awesome! It's great that they totally get how much of an achievement this is, and are celebrating you, too (before celebrating the baby later on). That really made me smile.

Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog. I'm always so happy to hear from ya.

My husband is also interested in getting one of these. . . funny how it becomes a need when they have to do the changing.

And I am glad that your friends threw you such a nice party. Now, I want a chicken fajita rollup.

What awesome friends - clearly you draw great people to you :-)

I have heard the slow/fast swimmer idea before but never such a detailed explanation.

Your friends rock! Glad things are going so well for you!

Since I had my UTI early, if I'm pg, that means greater chance for a girl. Goooo Big Pink!

My cat will not go in the litter box, he will only go outside. He's trained. When he has to go he scratches on the door and meows.

I've tried to force him into going into the litter box and not letting him out and he once pooped in a potted plant and another time pooped in the shower. No litter box advice here.

a male colleague gave me the swim sperm theory a long time ago & I've always wondered if it was proven or not. hmmn! you've got great friends too - i dont know if my comments are coming through or not

About choosing the gender by timing sex - my doctor says it's about 65% (meaning better than the 50-50 odds you'd have otherwise, but far from perfect). On the other hand, he said that of all the things that work, this works the best. Check back with me in 2-1/2 months. If we happen to have a boy, it worked :-)

My parents have sworn by this for many years, including 'educating' many people & my mom says she believes it's closer to 80-90% if you really stick to it...

I know I have a little sister who was deliberately conceived to be a girl.

What a nice surprise your friends gave you!!!... that's nice!

I've also heard about the sperm thing a lot of times, and while it may be true I believe there is also this "luck" factor playing a huge role on the whole process.

Before I knew about our IF issues I was the one that wanted to plan even the gender of the babies and now my perspective is totally different!!!... I guess that is one of the possitive things that IF did to me ;)

I want your friends!!! CUPCAKES AND PRESENTS!

I know know nothing about kitty litter but I do know that what your wrote about X and Y sperm is correct. There is a whole section devoted to gender selection in Taking Charge of Your Fertility.
