We had such a great weekend. It was E's birthday. So we went to visit his family and enjoy Disney.
Friday night We met up with Jen's Family and Barb at City Walk. We left MT with E's Mom. We left her with instructions.* Not many, Just what certain cues mean and about when they should happen. Gave her our bath soap and she said that she had some baby soap, not to use ours. I did elaborate that I need her to use ours because of his "allergy" (aka eczema) E explained our dinner, bath, bottle, bedtime routine that is pretty solid now. Since I work at 4 on some days, MT has gotten used to that time away from us. So we knew that He would be fine having someone else do those things. Plus MIL's house is like a zoo in itself. ( 4 dogs, 8 cats {one is pregnant} and 6 kids living at home with 2 adults) There was PLENTY of things to keep him entertained.
*the only thing I am pretty particular on is our Food choices. I do my very best making sure that what MT eats is healthy/certain organic choices as much as possible. I know that as he gets older, the harder it is/will be. I stated firmly No regular Milk and No Juice in the sippy (I found her giving some kind of orange drink to MT in January and wasn't thrilled)... The sippy is for Water. (for now)
We headed out for a night on the town. And had a great time! MIL called because she could not find something, So E talked her through it and all was well. MIL is blown away that MT will go to sleep when placed down for the night. She has made numerous comments on this. ... She has told E that she thinks it is cruel and borderline child abuse. No baby she ever knew or insert whomever she tells babies ever did that. "You just lay him down and he goes to sleep! That is so bizarre!?!" perplexed She had to hold/ rock/sleep with all of her kids to get them to sleep ... She has made comments to E several times and asked if I pick him up at night when/if he cries.... ARE YOU SERIOUS! Do you Know me AT ALL ??? ..Ok back to my post .... So then she called us to tell us that she was worried because MT's blanket we brought with us was a lil too much for her liking. He has grown quite attached to this blanket. So E asked if she would just give it back to him and that we would be home in like 45 mins. In her defense, MT loves to cover his head up with the blanket when he is trying to fall asleep. I don't know why he does it, but he does. She "does not agree with this either". Which is fine ...We don't agree on many things.
We get home and I find JUICE in the sippy cup and MILK in the LID ....Seriously .... YES. She then tells E that MT was melting down this time (near time we told her that he would need a bottle) and she thought maybe he wanted juice or milk instead. I TRIED to refrain from stating the obvious because she followed that statement up with But He just wanted the bottle ....
Saturday, E's birthday. We enjoyed Disney! We did Magic Kingdom and Epcot. He had such a blast. E, who rarely ever shows emotions, was so excited. He said a few times that this was his best birthday memory ever. I was so happy for him to be happy. MT was a rockstar that day. He was not a big fan at first for having to nap in the stroller but decided to give it up and try it out.
We left the park around 9. (good lord was I exhausted) When we got back to MIL's, they yelled surprise as we walked in the door and woke up MT. They had Cake/balloons and then insisted on feeding him the chocolatist chocolate icing chocolate cake ever ...... I was trying SO very hard to be on my best behavior .... Thankfully being exhausted worked in MIL's favor. Needless to say, That night after cake, my child could not go to sleep on his own. I did have to go lay down with him to get him to calm down. I did let him fuss a bit before rushing in, MIL kept saying "Shouldn't you go get him, check on him, He may need something" .... She looked so excited that he was crying for bedtime. She was very pleases that I had to hold MT to sleep that night .....

Oy, am I with you on the MIL front. Well, I was. But I've since gotten rid of her completely ;o).
Love all of the pictures! Do you mind if I ask what kind of carrier E has on?
Awww yes MIL, from what I gather threw the years all older mothers don't approve of how the younger mother is doing things. And it is if they need hearing ads because they don't fallow any instruction ( after all they been there and THINK they know it all) but see all babes are different and they have not had your child.
I agree how you put your son to sleep. My first boy I rocked every night till he was two and he seem always "need" full attention at night because of this. The second boy, I did what you did with MT and it went much much easer. Second child you seem less tense then with the first, why? Your tired and learn they all don't need to be held and rocked. Though I did hold him and cuddle, but when mommy said bed time, it was a kiss, a hug and Goodnight.
Your doing just fine!! MIL will just have to learn in time she needs to respect how you would like things dune. I am glad you had a great day on Saturday Happy Birthday to E and love the pic with shark teeth! You all look great, hope you got some rest latter on... :o)
I just figured you were too cool for me, sniff sniff.
Okay, one more question! Did you ever consider a beco baby carrier? They're similar in price, but the (girly) designs are cuter. Clearly we fit in the weight requirements since Mia is a tiny chicken, I just worry about her always wanting to turn her head around because she likes to see what's going on.
I am so sorry that you had to deal with a mil that wasn't helping your cause. Glad you had a good weekend despite all that though. I completely understand about a mil that doesn't listen and does whatever they want to do. Sometimes I let it go and sometimes I say something about it in a nice yet matter of fact way. Good luck with this in the future.
*By the way, you look fabulous. Last summer I lived in shorts like those green ones. They were so comfortable.
Sorry about the MIL situation... I know so frustrating!
I am so glad you guys had a awesome time at Disney and E had such a fabulous birthday! Love all the pic's.
Don't even get me started on the MIL front...makes me want to pull my eyes right out of the socket sometimes!
Despite the glitches (which you handled amazingly well I must say), it looks like you all had a great day. MT looks adorable!!!
OMG your little one has so much blond hair!!!! Could he be any cuter? (Maybe with that chocolate icing smeared on his face)
I'm so glad that MT survived the MIL. I'm sure I've said it before, but I'll say it again. She. Is. Heinous. Why is it so hard for some people to respect a parents wish in how their children are cared for? It's not like you told her she couldn't kiss on him or play with him. You just didn't want her irritating his skin or upsetting his stomach.
My MIL loves to tell me how she had Tim on "homogonized milk" at a very early age and how she used to give him "juice from her big mac" before he was eating solids. And I can't forget how all of her kids "chewed her chin off" or "teethed on a mason jar lid [the part that goes inside the ring, not the ring itself]". Um...no, she will not be watching the boys until they're old enough to report back to me, I think.
I'm so glad you and E and MT had such fun on E's birthday!
Wow...the shark picture....E + MT = Twins!!!!
I won't comment on the MIL stuff but HOT DAMN GIRLY! You lookin' GOOD! Oh yeah, and your "boys" are cuties too. :o) You know my obsessive love for MT so I won't gush in this comment. :o)
You have made me so excited for Disney in September even though it feels so far away!
She thinks the fact that he will go to sleep on his own is WRONG? Is she NUTS? I thought MILs were supposed to complain about the opposite? I was thrilled when I put Elizabeth down asleep last night, her eyes popped open, and then she went back to sleep on her own. It was a breakthrough.
I love that shark mouth picture!
My personal rule is: my kid, my decisions. Period. I would totally freak if my MIL or mom gave Luke orange drink, so you are much calmer that I am. I write everything down and post it so they can;t claim I didn't tell them. :)
Sheesh your MIL sounds like a piece of work. Glad you had a great time anyway!!
Don't get me started. .. Will drank a half of bottle of juice in less than 24 hours. He has had juice before, but usually 2 oz. mixed with water because of constipation, not an 8 oz. bottle filled with full strength. And that Book of Will that I painstakingly made. . . yeah, she didn't even crack the cover. And wondered why he was hungry/fussy/irritable. Gah. He didn't go to bed until 10 PM!!!!! That might be part of it.
Deep breath.
But she did try, I guess. Right? Right. Right. Right.
Glad you had an amazing weekend!
My GOSH does that boy ever look like his father!!! Holy cow!!!!!!!!!!!
You guys look great!! Sounds like you had a nice time. I think in laws were created to drive people nuts. And Grandmothers were born to ignore mothers wishes/routines. Sounds like you held up like a champ through it all.
Awww... this post makes my skin crawl. You know exactly how I feel about mine and it sounds to me like our MILs can take long walks off the same short pier together. What a butthole! I won't let mine watch L for a loooooong time for the same reasons. She won't even listen to me when I tell her how to feed our dogs when they stay there, what makes me think she'll do ANYTHING right with MY baby? The juice in the sippy and sleep thing is just so irritating. SIGH. I hope this visit means you don't have to see her for a very long time, though? ;-) I get scolded for letting L sleep in her own bed behind a closed door, by the way... Apparently, I am supposed to hold her all day long and I am NEVER, EVER supposed to let her cry unattended. Ever.
Rolling my eyes.
YOU GUYS look SO CUTE at Disney. Beautiful family. I am glad you had fun and E had such a good birthday!
MIL's. I don't think I need to say more than that.
Love the pics!
Your MIL is veeeeeery weird.
Beautiful photos.
See, that's what I'm most concerned about as far as my MIL is concerned...well, they're entire family actually...not respecting or following my wishes on what to feed BB, or the schedule, discipline, or even the religious stuff. She's head strong with what she thinks is right and I'm not sure I can't accept things gracefully if what I request is not honored. Totally frustrating and I'm sorry you had to deal with it at all.
HOWEVER, I'm glad you, E, and MT had fun at MK and Epcot...very cute pics:-)
Yeah, MIL's...so much fun. That's why I call mine the "Outlaws" ;)
Glad to hear that you all had a great time! Love the pics!
Wow. At least it was only milk/juice in the sippy cup. It wasn't like your MIL went into the drug store to buy beer and left your baby outside in the cold w/ her dorky husband..Hmm maybe MIL should of taken baby w/ her into the store.
Glad to hear E had a good b-day. Might I say you look great!
First of all, Happy Birthday to E, and HELLO gorgeous big boy.
As for mother-in-laws, do not get me started! I'm sorry taht you had to deal with this. No of us should... these are our babies!
You're going a great job!
Sorry about your MIL, it is always hard!!!...
My mom is way worse than my MIL most of the time, go figure!
The pics just speak from themselves, a great family and a great time, how awesome!...
...And I must admit MT could NOT be any cutter ;)
I just love you and your cute little family. That's all I have to say.
