No more Sugar .. but maybe some extra spice

Thank you so much for not posting any negative comments about my previous video/post. I debated whether to post it or not - I went back and forth- It shows one of my nasty heart surgery scars and I know that some DO NOT want to see a pregnant belly - and I realize after the fact that it didn't even get the disclaimer because it posted on top of the original post- So thank you for those that did not enjoy it and still did not flame me for posting it w/o a warning - I do apologize. And for those that did enjoy it - thanks for the vote of confidence. I really wanted to share it with y'all since I tend to share everything else!

I failed the 1 hour gtt - my number was 167 - so They want me to do the 3 hr gtt. I explained to the nurse that I am a bad stick(read any previous post that invloved givig blood) - I currently have a huge bruise on both arms now as it is from tryig to squeeze alil blood out of me for the 1 hr test. There is no way that my body will allow me to give blood for the 3 hour test. It took 4 lab techs to get the are minimun out of my body for the 1 hour -- the 3 hour is going to be brutal on my veins and I'd prefer to not do it if there are other options..so i wait ..and hope there are other options. They cannot consider me gd w/o the 3 hour test and my insurance w/o cover any additional testings unless I do the 3 hour tests. Therefore I cannot have my metformin back. I asked if I could do my own blood sugar monitoring? I wait for answers ...

Also I am anemic and need to start taking 2 iron supplements a day -- She told me to take it w/ orange juice. I laughed and informed her that surely the OJ would up my sugars. She sighed and said Yes, don't take it with OJ, try and eat more iron enriched foods .....

This will all work out and I will stop being frustrated soon.. but right now - I am in the "i just wish a sista could catch a break" mode. This too shall pass.

We took my 29 week picture last night - I found that I wore the same shirt at 20 weeks .. here is the difference:

You look beautiful! Look at how much he's grown!!! He's definitely moved further south. :-)

I'm sorry about the test. I hope they can work something out for you!!!

I wish you could catch a break, too. You and Mini are in my prayers (and E, of course)!

Great belly shot! You look fantastic!!

So sorry about the 1 hour test, that does suck. Hopefully they'll work something out for you. But if you have any questions about GD, please don't hesitate to ask, I've been through it twice.

Blah. I'm sorry sweetie.

Right before I read that that was the same shirt I thought, "Isn't that the same shirt?" hahaha.

That wasn't the one I saw "you" wearing in Vegas. hehe.

I hope you can catch a break, and by the way I love the pictures! I liked the video too, (I can't remember if I mentioned that last time). I see no reason why they shouldn't let you monitor your own blood sugar. If you have a way to check it with a finger stick throughout the day I would think that would be better anyways. My friend at work (another CRNA) did end up having gest diabetes but she only did a 1 hr test and then further did finger sticks to confirm and see what levels she was at. Her pregnancy went stellar, and she had an uncomplicated vag delivery of a beautiful baby girl even though her sugars were high in her third trimester. I really hope things work out soon!

You look great!

I'm sorry you failed the one hour test! There is hope though. I told you already that I failed the one hour test twice (long story as to why I took it twice), and I passed the 3 hr. test, by the skin of my teeth, yes, but I still passed.

Lookin good honey!

Sorry to hear about the GTT test. Let us know how the 3 hour test goes. Best of luck!

A small thought- can they either do the 3 hour test with a finger prick glucometer (rather than a formal lab glucose which requires a venous stick) OR how about having a drip put in- it might take a few goes to get in, but once it is, all your bloods can just come out of the drip (discarding the first 5 mls each time).

Failing that, if it was ME doing the sticking I'd have a look at veins other than your elbows to get blood from. Legs can be a good option, I've never failed to get blood from a patient's leg vein when there's been nothing either arm.

OR (finally). Get them to numb your elbows up with some EMLA cream (or local topical anaesthetic equivalent) when you drink the glucose solution- voila! By the time of the first blood test you won't feel a thing, which often makes it easier to get blood, too.

Those pics demonstrate great progress!
Like some others I was going to suggest finger pokes instead of venipuncture for the 3 hr GTT. Good luck!!

Loving that belly! I can definitely see more roundness in the 29 week pic :)

I'm so sorry about the GD test. I hope you can monitor it on your own without going through the hell of the sticks again. XOXO

That is great to show the growth via same shirt comparison! You look fabulous! Sorry about the GTT stuff. What a freaking headache. Hope they have other options for you than the bloodwork...those needles can get painful when our veins refuse to cooperate!
