this torturous topic already?

Can a 13 week old really be teething? Apparently, i am So very ill prepared for this topic.

Drool - check
MUCH more Cranky/Fussy than normal - check
chewing on everything and putting it straight in the mouth - check

not wanting to eat or cry through the feeding .... eating less, wanting to use me as a pacifier (nuk) and biting .... are these signs?

how do i check for swollen gums?

My oldest daughter got her first two teeth at 3 months. My youngest who is now 7 months got her first teeth last month. She now has 4 teeth coming in on the top all at once. Talk about a fuss pot.

I think its definitely possible. I'm wondering if Lemy is teething as she's demonstrating those same symptoms. That and it hurts like hell when she latches on.

I don't know anything about time frames and babies...I'm going to have to wing it a bit and learn as I go. But that said - I do think my one nephew began teething early - like around this time frame and everything you mentioned sure sounds like teething. I think you might be right on the money. How to check for swollen gums? Well - I'm going to read what others tell you so I know later. I'm so glad I have you to test out all these waters for me :-)

Oh yes, it sure can be teething! My little guy has been doin the same thing for weeks. I have heard they can teeth for monthes before teeth emerge though.

it could definitely be teething - if he seems to react in a different way when you run your fingers over his gums with a little bit of pressure, then that's probably the culprit. poor thing!

There is an article in this month's "Parenting" magazine (October) about teething (pp.175-176). It says some babies start teething as early as 2 months (!!) and some as late as 14.

All the symptoms sure sound like he is teething to me!

Either way, I hope it settles down soon.

When you think about it- who designed humans so that our teeth have to poke up through gums to appear- talk about ouch!!

Just an FYI - the girls at daycare say that diarrhea is a big sign as well. Hope that helps and he gets better soon!

I have no idea how to answer your question but I am interested in what other people have to say.

I think it sounds like teething. Poor little guy. My nephew started teething early, too. Hope the fussiness isn't too unbearable. Hang in there.

Sounds like it may very well be possible!

Yes, it totally could be Farah! Sean got his first at about 4 months (and just lost his first last week, so if MT does get them early FYI he will also likely lose them early too, but you have a few years before you need to worry about that)! Anyway, I believe when Sean was teething, besides giving he cold teethers, we used baby tylenol and the numbing gel they sell (I forget the brand). (((HUGS))) I know it is stressful when they are teething and you want to help them feel better. It will be exciting when you find/feel his first tooth coming in. :)

This is why teeth aren't considered a milestone...they all seem to get them at different times. I'd say it's surely possible that he's in the beginnings of teething. Sometimes it takes forever for them to actually come in though, so just look for those really swollen gums, likely in the bottom middle since it's his first teeth.

oh wow - good luck with it if it is indeed teething!

Putting everything in his mouth is his earliest form of exploration and is good for cognitive development, so let him mouth things as long as they are clean! (wow - if I am going to be a mom for real, I need to read up on physical as well as psychological development!)
